wyoming special deer

Anyone know if your second choice is considered if you apply in the "special" deer (NR)?
thanks!

The drawing for the special tags is no different than for the regular tags. They only look at the first choice on all applications first. The second choice would only come into play if you applied for a hunt that had more tags than first choice applicants.

Yea, I knew they looked at everyones first choice first. But, the area I'm thinking of, will (should have) tags remaining after first choices. I did not draw this tag last year as a second choice, although some people did. I was wondering if I paid the extra money, if my odds of drawing one of these tags ( whats left after first choice round)  would be greater than just paying the regular deer.

Thanks. I did look at that, but I was just wondering how the second choice played in. Thanks again.

The Drawing Odds and Report under Random Draw list the number of first, second, and third choice applicants.

Link: If you don't draw your first tag, say a 128-1, and you put in for General area A as a second choice, you retain your points (keep them all) and you draw the Unit A tag to hunt deer. This is a great system if there are leftover tags. You will still pay full price for your tag (special being spendy) for your tag, but you retain your points and draw a deer tag. Pretty good deal if you ask me

Yea, I've been drawing my second choice for the last six or seven years, while building my points. With tag numbers decreasing, I didn't draw my second choice last year. There was a chance as a second choice to draw, I just didn't. I'd like to get back there and was just wondering if I paid the "special", it would increase my odds of drawing one of the tags still available after the first choice go round. My other option is to just use my points this year on a G tag.
I think it was only three years ago, there were a couple hundred leftovers for this region available to buy after all the draws.

Special draw will increase your odds, Eastman's has a decent writeup in their magazines on the draw odds.  I bet gohunt.com does it as well.

Everyone may be so worried about winter kill that all the odds change this year. I believe you're on the right track though for the special tag because they just allocate a defined number of them so I'm sure they're happy to get the money whether it's 1st choice or 2nd choice.

My thoughts exactly. I would rather pay an extra two hundred bucks if it means going hunting and building a point, or staying home and building a point!
